No. 1 Oklahoma Set for Big 12 Opener

Clark Nabs Second Big 12 Weekly Award

February 04, 2014 | Women's Gymnastics

NORMAN, Okla. -- Make that two for Rebecca Clark: the junior from Blue Springs, Mo., earned her second Big 12 weekly award this season on Tuesday afternoon. Clark gave the No. 2 Oklahoma women's gymnastics team its eighth weekly honor of 2014, earning Event Specialist of the Week accolades for her strong performance against Florida last weekend in Gainesville.

Clark was one of the Sooners' steadiest performers, sticking her routines on bars and beam in OU's narrow loss to Florida. She appeared in the No. 2 spot for Oklahoma on bars, posting a 9.875 to tie her season-high and finish in a tie for second on the event. The routine marked Clark's third routine of 9.875 or better on bars this season. She followed up with a 9.875 on beam in the anchor position to tie for fourth overall.

The Sooners now own eight weekly honors over eight weeks of competition, leading the Big 12 by a wide margin (WVU follows in second with four). Clark joins junior Erica Brewer and freshman Chayse Capps as OU team members who have earned multiple conference awards this season, with each gymnast owning two honors to her name.

Clark and Oklahoma will return to Norman this weekend to face the No. 3 LSU Tigers at the Lloyd Noble Center. The meet is slated for a 1:45 p.m. start on Sunday, Feb. 9.
