NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma men's gymnastics junior Alec Robin took first on floor and Sooner alum Chris Brooks won the all-around at the Winter Cup competition Saturday in Las Vegas.

The Winter Cup gathered the best of the best in U.S. gymnastics to compete over the course of two days, with final results taken from the combined scores from both days.

Robin, a three-time All-American at Oklahoma, tied Senior National Team member Eddie Penev for top honors on floor, with a score of 30.900 after earning a 15.500 on Thursday and a 15.400 Saturday.

The junior also placed fifth overall on pommel horse and 12th in the all-around competition, just short of qualifying for the National Team.

Brooks ensured his future spot on the U.S. squad with a 174.850 in the all-around, taking the Winter Cup title for the second time after also doing so in 2010. Brooks was a seven-time All-American at OU from 2006-09.

Also making an outstanding showing was freshman Allan Bower who also finished just outside National Team consideration with a strong score of 168.300 in the all-around, good for 11th overall. Bower placed third on pommel horse and 12th on both parallel bars and a high bar.

"Congratulations to Chris Brooks on his second Winter Cup championship," said OU head coach Mark Williams. "I'm also pleased with the OU guys' performance and having the most NCAA athletes in the finals. Alec Robin and Allan Bower were close to making the national team which was also exciting."

Other Sooners also placed among the top competitors, including freshman Colin Van Wicklen with a fourth-place finish on floor and junior Michael Squires with an identical fourth-place finish on still rings. Former OU gymnast and current National Team member Jake Dalton also placed fifth on rings.

Another Sooner, National Team member Steve Legendre, was in contention on still rings after day one, but suffered a torn pectoral muscle Saturday night.

Junior Danny Berardini and freshman Alex Powarzynski placed 20th and 22nd, respectively, in the all-around, giving OU a total of nine past and present competitors on Saturday.

After training next week, No. 1 Oklahoma will take on No. 11 Nebraska on Sunday, March 9, at 4 p.m. The meet will be the final regular season home meet of the year and will honor this year's four seniors.
