NORMAN, Okla. – The No. 24 Oklahoma volleyball team heads back to the state of Texas for its second road match of the week as it visits Baylor Saturday night at 7:00 pm.
Oklahoma dropped to 16-7 overall and 7-3 in the Big 12 with a loss at TCU on Wednesday. With a K-State loss at Iowa State, the Sooners remained tied for second in the league standings with the Wildcats, though they trail the season series. Redshirt-sophomore outside hitter Madison Ward earned her second Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week and followed up her award with an 18-kill, 13-dig performance on Wednesday for her seventh double-double of the season. She is averaging 3.19 kills and 2.42 digs per set. Junior outside hitter Kierra Holst leads the OU attack with 3.45 kills per set after a 22-kill night on Wednesday. Junior setter Julia Doyle is averaging 10.57 assists per set. Junior libero Taylor Migliazzo leads the back row at 3.43 digs per set.
Baylor lost in straight sets at Kansas on Wednesday to roll into the weekend at 13-12 overall and 3-7 in the Big 12. Outside hitter Andie Malloy, a transfer from ISU, leads the Bears in kills and digs per set at 3.98 and 2.94, respectively. Outside hitter Katie Staiger ranks second at 2.97 and middle hitter Adrien Richburg is third at 2.27 kills per set. Setter Amy Rosenbaum registers 10.24 assists per set. As a team, Baylor is hitting .210 on the season and only .180 in Big 12 play.
Oklahoma won in four over Baylor at home on October 18. The victory came by set scores of 25-21, 24-26, 25-16, 25-21. Sophomore outside hitter Kimmy Gardiner was outstanding with 17 kills and just one error for a .615 hitting percentage. Ward and Holst chipped in with 16 and 13 kills, respectively. Doyle notched a double-double with 46 assists and 13 digs. Malloy hit .400 and led all players with 19 kills and 18 digs.
Doyle reached 3,000 career assists in a 30-assist effort at Texas to push her total to 3,125. She became the seventh Sooner to ever reach that mark. Against Baylor (10/18), Holst surpassed the 800-kill mark with her career total currently sitting at 867 and on well on pace for over 1,000 in her career.
