Return to Recap

OU Head Coach Lon Kruger
Opening comment:
“It was a great atmosphere. I thought it was a meeting that we'll learn a lot from. Obviously, the good things in building an 18-point lead and the bad things in losing that lead, but we'll learn a lot. Congratulations to Creighton, they've got a good ball club, a great atmosphere and a great environment. We didn't do the things down the stretch that we have to with the strength and composure that you have to to win in a tough place, but we'll learn from that and get better.”

On what his team can learn from the game:
“It was a great game for us. Obviously, I don't feel as good about the outcome, but as far as learning opportunities, there are a lot of them in a game like this. With a crowd like that, you can't simulate that, so that part is good. The experience that we'll get from this is good.”

On Creighton's fans and atmosphere:
“This atmosphere, there are some top-tier atmospheres in the country, I don't know that there is that much difference between the top dozen and certainly I think this one would have to be in that. They average a bunch of people every year. Credit to the community and to the program. This is as loud as we're going to see all year long. We'll see others maybe equally loud, but none any better. I thought the crowd was great.”

On what went wrong for his team in the second half:
“Just to see the toughness that you have to have to get open and to get separation, to set screens and create opportunities, I thought there in the last 18 minutes we didn't do what you have to do offensively. We don't mind threes if they're good rhythm threes of course, but we just have to work harder to get looks that we want. We turned it over a few times there at critical times instead of being solid enough to finish opportunities.”

Junior Guard Buddy Hield
On Creighton's fans:
“They feed off their crowd a lot. I feel like the noise of the building would speed us up and we just have to be a grown men and settle ourselves down and execute our plays.”

Junior Forward Ryan Spangler
On what Creighton did well in the second half:
“I think they pressured us a little. Give them credit, but I think we rushed ourselves a little bit and got away from what made us successful.”

On giving Creighton open looks:
“It's tough. I think we gave them six or seven open threes in a row that they knocked down, and that's one thing you can't do against Creighton. You have to get back and not give them open threes.”
