Trio Named to National Team

NORMAN, Okla. -- Three former members of the Oklahoma men's gymnastics program were chosen as members of the 2013-14 U.S. Men's Senior National Team after turning in stellar performances at the P&G Championships culminating Sunday in Hartford, Conn.

Jake Dalton, Steven Legendre and Alex Naddour were named to the team for the third-straight year. The trio helped Team USA to the bronze medal in 2011 and participated in the 2012 London Olympics with Dalton competing and Legendre and Naddour as alternates.

The trio will wait to hear if they are chosen to the World Championship squad which will be announced either late Sunday or early Monday.

Naddour finished the weekend with the second-best all-around score of the weekend, posting a combined total of 178.500 while also finish first on the pommel horse and second on still rings.

Dalton, who finished third in the all-around with a score of 177.650, finished in the top 10 in five events, including third on floor and fourth on rings and high bar.

Legendre battled back from injury this offseason to earn his spot after placing first on floor with a score of 31.600 while placing sixth overall in the all-around.

"Steve struggled on horse but coming back after surgery on his elbow and everything he did well in staying in the top group of all-arounders," said OU head coach Mark Williams. "Jake also did really well and hopefully they'll all make it on the World Championship team."

Also for the Sooners, current OU junior Michael Squires finished strong in his first-ever U.S. Championships appearance, finishing third on still rings.

Current sophomore Kanji Oyama finished in the same spot he found himself after the first day Friday, placing 18th in the all-around, including a 12th-place finish on floor.

"Kanji hit 12 for 12 this weekend and you couldn't really ask for anything more," Williams said. "Squires did a really great ring set and we were pleased with him in the top three."

Also competing in the senior division after competing in the junior division on Friday was incoming Sooner freshman Colin Van Wicklen. A Junior National Team member, Van Wicklen finished 27th in the all-around and seventh on floor.
