Kris Muhl

Assistant Coach Kris Muhl joined the OU women's rowing staff in July, coming from the University of Central Florida where he coached the varsity lightweight women's team under current OU head coach Leeanne Crain and alongside fellow OU assistant coach Andy Derrick.

At UCF, Coach Muhl helped the lightweight women earn a No. 3 national ranking during the season, defeat perennial lightweight power Radcliffe on their home course, and win the Dad Vail Regatta with significant open water. Coach Muhl was also nominated for Lightweight Coach of the Year for the 2007-08 season.

Before joining the UCF rowing staff, Muhl was at the University of California, Berkeley, where he served as the assistant coach and director of operations for the men's rowing team. While an assistant at Cal, the team won varsity 8+ and freshmen 8+ national championships as well as the team national championship and Pac-10 Conference titles for individual boats and overall team.

Muhl has also served as the University of Iowa Men's Rowing Club assistant and head coach and the Northwestern University Rowing Club head novice men's coach, where he helped the men to a second-place finish in the Midwest Sprints and a fourth-place finish at the Dad Vail Regatta.

Coach Muhl received his bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa and his master's degree from Loyola University Chicago, and has a US Rowing Level III coaching certification. His parents live in Green Bay, Wis., where his mother is the president of the Bellin College of Nursing and his father is semi-retired. He also has one sister who is married and lives in a suburb of Minneapolis with three children. In his spare time, Coach Muhl enjoys riding his bike, swimming, and various other activities.
