To have a successful program, you must have excellent coaches. First year head coach John Roddick made a move to secure one of the nations best assistant coaches when he was hired in June of 2009.

Entering his sixth season with the OU tennis program is assistant coach Silviu Tanasoiu. Tanasoiu, the two-time ITA Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year, has been instrumental to the success of the Sooners' program.

"Silviu is a temendous asset to our program," John Roddick said. "He is a tireless worker and tremendous recruiter."

The former OU standout was a three-year letterwinner at Oklahoma while competing for the Sooners from 2003-2005.

Tanasiou graduated from Oklahoma in 2005 with a degree in psychology.

The Romania native arrived at OU after competing at the University of Louisiana-Monroe for the 2001-02 season, finishing with the third highest winning percentage on the team.

Once arriving at Oklahoma, Tanasoiu served as a reliable threat in singles and doubles competition.

In both his junior and senior seasons, he produced more than 20 wins and helped Oklahoma upset Texas and No. 22 ranked Baylor in duals with partner Marek Velicka in 2005.

With Tanasoiu as her coach, Perianu reached the second round of the 2006 French Open and a ranking of 120 on the WTA tour.

After helping OU reach its first NCAA Quarterfinal appearance in school history, Tanasoiu was named the 2010 ITA Assistant Coach of the Year in the Central Region.

Throughout his coaching tenure at OU Tanasoiu has been instrumental in louring a number of high-profile recruits to Norman.
