Phone No.: (405) 325-8341 Entering his sixth season with the OU tennis program is assistant coach Silviu Tanasoiu. Tanasoiu, the two-time ITA Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year, has been instrumental to the success of the Sooners' program. "Silviu is a temendous asset to our program," John Roddick said. "He is a tireless worker and tremendous recruiter." The former OU standout was a three-year letterwinner at Oklahoma while competing for the Sooners from 2003-2005. Tanasiou graduated from Oklahoma in 2005 with a degree in psychology. The Romania native arrived at OU after competing at the University of Louisiana-Monroe for the 2001-02 season, finishing with the third highest winning percentage on the team. Once arriving at Oklahoma, Tanasoiu served as a reliable threat in singles and doubles competition. In both his junior and senior seasons, he produced more than 20 wins and helped Oklahoma upset Texas and No. 22 ranked Baylor in duals with partner Marek Velicka in 2005. |
Tanasoiu's excellent leadership on the court and his age will be a valuable asset to the Sooners' coaching staff. Prior to being named the assistant, Tanasoiu worked with former OU standout Anda Perianu on the professional circuit for three and a half years. With Tanasoiu as her coach, Perianu reached the second round of the 2006 French Open and a ranking of 120 on the WTA tour. |
