Sooners Face Two Ranked Conference Opponents

NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma women's tennis team swept West Virginia, 7-0, in the first meeting between the schools in team history, Sunday, April 7, in Morgantown, W. Va.

“It was good to see everyone compete and contribute to a good performance today.” OU head coach David Mullins said. “It was a long weekend but it was nice to see us finish strong and we seemed to play our best at the end of each match.”

Oklahoma (12-6, 4-2 Big 12) swept doubles to seal the first team point for the Sooners.

In singles play, Oklahoma only lost two sets, one at the No. 1 spot and the other at the No. 5 spot. Hermon Brhane, at the No. 1 position, went on to win, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 and Abbi Melrose claimed a 6-2, 4-6, 13-11 victory on court five.

Mia Lancaster clinched the match for Oklahoma after a 6-3, 6-4 win over Hailey Barrett at the No. 3 position.

The Sooners return home to face two ranked conference opponents. Oklahoma plays No. 42 Baylor Saturday, April 13, and No. 35 TCU Sunday, April 14.
