NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma freshman Jacob Evans has been named to the mid-season watch list for the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Stopper of the Year Award, given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I baseball, the association announced Tuesday.
Evans (5-1, 1.34 ERA) has seven saves and pitched 17 scoreless outings in 19 appearances this season. In 33 2/3 innings of work, the lefthander has 29 strikeouts to four walks.
The honor comes a week after Sooner ace Jonathan Gray (7-1, 1.09 ERA) was placed on the watch list for the 2013 Pitcher of the Year Award presented by the College Baseball Hall of Fame.
Evans closes a defense that has a team ERA of 2.81 and ranks third nationally averaging nine strikeouts per nine innings and is 10th with 7.2 hits allowed per nine innings.
No. 11 Oklahoma (31-10) hosts Texas Tech for a weekend series beginning Friday, April 26, at 6:30 p.m. All three games will be broadcast by Sooner Sports TV on FCS Central.
