The Sooners lead Baylor 34-29 in the all-time series and have won each of the last five games, all of which were last season. OU swept the Bears in Norman in the last Big 12 series of the regular season last year, claiming 1-0, 2-1 and 12-6 victories. The two teams met up two more times at the Big 12 Championship, with Oklahoma pulling out 3-2 and 7-2 wins.
LAST WEEK
Oklahoma claimed its first series victory against Texas in 15 years with a 4-2 win at UFCU Disch-Falk Field last Sunday. With a 2-1 victory Friday, the Sooners took their first series against the Longhorns since a sweep in Norman in 1998. It was OU's first series win in Austin since the first year of Big 12 Conference affiliation in 1997. After defeating UT Arlington 14-4 on Tuesday, Baylor hosted a Big 12 series against West Virginia, dropping the first game, 9-8, before winning the series with an 8-0 victory and an 11-1 win.
A LOOK AT BAYLOR
Baylor is led by Nathan Orf, a Big 12 First Team selection last season now in his senior year. Orf is hitting .421 in 33 games this season, totaling 53 hits, six doubles, one home run, 20 RBI and 15 walks. Cal Towey leads the Bears with 30 RBI and is second on the team with a .320 average and a team-leading 10 doubles. On the mound, Baylor has used 16 different pitchers this season, including seven different starters. Dillon Newman leads the team with 38 strikeouts and eight games started and has a 3.12 ERA.
PLAYER TO WATCH - JONATHAN GRAY
In eight apperances this season, Jonathan Gray is 6-1 on the year and has gone at least six innings in each start. The junior has three different games with 12 strikeouts this year and leads the Big 12 with 71 total, 20 more than the next closest pitcher. Last week, Gray shut down Texas, allowing no earned runs and earning eight strikeouts in a 2-1 OU win. 2013 Season Stats: 1.19 ERA, 6-1 Record, 60.1 IP, 34 Hits, 8 ER, 11 BB, 71 K
AWESOME OBERSTE
Junior infielder Matt Oberste is one of the hottest hitters in the country. Oberste is coming off of a 30-game hit streak which ended in the first game of the Texas series, but not before setting a Big 12 and OU record. Oberste broke the OU program record with his 28th-straight game, hitting a home run in the first game of last week's series against Kansas to break the previous mark set by Marty Neff (1991).
Oberste, who began the campaign by capturing back-to-back Big 12 Conference Player of the Week honors, enters this week ranked fourth in the country in total bases (94), eighth in RBIs (40) and hits (53), ninth in slugging percentage (.734), 14th in RBI per game (1.21), 15th in home runs (8) and 18th in batting average (.414).
ALL-AMERICAN ACES
OU sports a pair of 2013 preseason All-American aces in its weekend rotation in junior righty Jonathan Gray and junior southpaw Dillon Overton. Overton is 6-2 with a 2.35 ERA and has fanned 51 against just 13 walks over 57.1 innings. He was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week after fanning seven over seven frames while surrendering just two hits to help power Oklahoma to a 10-4 victory over Hofstra on opening day.
Gray, who is 6-1 in 2013, leads the starting rotation with a 1.19 ERA and a team-high 71 strikeouts over 60.1 innings of work. The junior ranks fourth in the nation in strikeouts, sixth in WHIP 13th in total victories and 24th in ERA. Gray has won three Big 12 Pitcher of the Week honors, becoming the 13th pitcher to earn three or more Big 12 Pitcher of the Week honors in a single season and the first Sooner to do so. The junior from Chandler, Okla., tied a career high with 12 strikeouts against Kansas to earn the honor, going all nine innings in a 12-1 win in the series opener. Gray took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, ultimately allowing just two hits, one run and no walks.
