NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma gymnastics team maintained its No. 2 ranking for the third week in a row, upping its season average from 196.938 to 197.025 after a season-high score at West Virginia on Friday. The Sooners remain unbeaten on the year with a perfect 10-0 record, including two wins over No. 6 Georgia to go with victories already this season over No. 8 LSU, No. 11 Denver, No. 12 Oregon State and No. 25 Washington.

OU continues to be the best beam team in the nation, bumping up its average to a 49.325, not quite two-tenths ahead of second place Michigan. The team's score of 49.475 at WVU is the highest score of any team in a meet this season.

The Sooners also improved each of their event rankings, moving to No. 2 on floor (No. 4 last week), No. 4 on bars (No. 5 last week) and No. 8 on vault (No. 9 last week). OU's average score of 49.315 is just .004 behind UCLA for first place in the country.

Individually, junior Taylor Spears comes in this week at No. 7 in the all-around with a 39.425 average. Spears is second in the nation among gymnasts who have four or more all-around scores (Spears has five), just behind Michigan's Joanna Sampson's average of 39.460. Sophomore Erica Brewer also maintains her high average, coming in at No. 12 nationally in the all-around while also ranking No. 18 on the uneven bars.

Spears moved up three spots on beam to rank No. 5 in the country with a 9.885 average. Oklahoma is the only team with three gymnasts ranked in the top 15 on beam, with Lauren Alexander ranked No. 12 and Brewer at No. 13.

Rounding out the rankings, Haley Scaman is ranked as the top freshman in the nation on floor to lead the Sooners. Senior Brie Olson, who earned a career-high 9.925 on floor on Friday, ranks No. 14.

Oklahoma continues its season at Iowa State this Friday, Jan. 8, at 7 p.m. CT, competing against the Cyclones in their annual Beauty and the Beast meet. Live video and results can be found at Cyclones.com.
