Opening Statement:
"It is a crazy game. You go to the kids, the momentum, things happen and
I tell you with what our group has been through this year and, obviously we
got lucky on Myck Kabongo's shot. For a guy who has been through the things
he has done he deserves something good like that. I thought they brought their
energy for themselves. Nothing was happening in this building and they got it
going and I thought the best thing was they were oblivious to everything except
what was going on inside the lines. I think they really got lost in the game,
I think they got lost in the team, and there were some great plays made by a
lot of people."
On Myck Kabongo and the comeback:
" He was terrific and I don't think people truly understand what he did,
you are going to look at his line, but to me, the most impressive thing was
the 37 minutes at the level that he competed at on both ends. At halftime, you
know I wasn't really happy and I asked, 'who was going to guard this guy?' Myck
said, 'I will guard him.' I said, 'who is going guard this guy?' Myck said,
'I will guard him if that is what it'll take.' That is the kind of attitude
we want. Myck and Demarcus Holland said during a timeout, 'we are going to keep
playing,' and that is all we could do. We got aggressive with it and then the
momentum swung. We started making some shots but one team gets back on their
heels a little bit because the other one is coming because you are down 19 and
I mean you guys have been around long enough to know that when momentum changes,
some teams are like what just happened. I am sitting here myself thinking what
just happened. But it happened and they are guys that deserve the credit for
it."
On thoughts about the overall team:
"I have always thought we have character guys. But what I have never understood
is why we don't do what we do everyday in practice. That is what I have never
been able to figure out. And actually, I am going to tell you at halftime tonight,
I am there and I finally look at Dean Melchionni and I said, 'Dean, you have
been around here for four year, what do you say?' he just said, 'We don't play
like we play in practice. You guys play each other harder in practice than you
play out here. Why don't you do it like practice?' And we did. And then after
the game, I said, 'Dean what do you think?' And he said, 'we played like the
lights were out.' These guys are character guys. I thought two of the biggest
plays of the game were Demarcus Holland's two threes because he said, 'Okay,
you are not going to guard me then I am going to shoot it."
