Postgame Quotes

January 07, 2013 | Women's Basketball

  Head Coach Sherri Coale

On the game:
"For anybody who thinks women's basketball isn't pretty, that was pretty. A lot of players hitting shots; that was really sound basketball. I was really proud of our second half effort. We were flat early on, give TCU credit they hit a bunch of shots, but I'm not sure we made them very difficult. I think our discipline to go inside late in the game was impressive. So I'm very proud.”

On if TCU's 3-point shooting came as a suprise:
“We talked about their guards being their strengths. Their willingness to shoot the three's, you cant tell in film those guys have a lot of confidence, they believe they are suppose to make those shots.”

On winning Big 12 road games:
“The road is really long, we are proud of what we have done. I am proud of our mentality and composure. We have been through a lot and to steady ourselves and play at the level we are, I am very proud of. But it doesn't mean anything if you go home and stub your toe on Saturday.”

  Junior Guard Morgan Hook

On the game:
“Our second half effort (was the difference). The first half was not Oklahoma basketball. It came down to four minutes left we looked at each other and said we are not losing this game. 3-0 is a great spot to be in in the Big 12.

“It all stemmed from the defensive end. It boils down to defensive stops.”

  Head Coach Jeff Mittie

On the game:
“I thought it was a great basketball game. Both teams were going at each other for 40 minutes. It really boils down to a couple plays here and there and they made a few more than we did.”

On the result:
“I thought both teams played at a high level. I thought the key to the second half was turnovers. We were not able to get them out of their rhythm. I thought both teams played great. I think we didn't quite have the legs down the stretch to get the turnovers”

On his team's performance:
“I think this team is getting better. I don't think there is any doubt over the last two or three games you see things that are better. This is hard on them because they played so well. Neither team could run away form each other and Oklahoma does a great job of winning the last four minutes of the game. The youth of our basketball team and playing together more is getting better. It takes time; it takes adjustments. We are finding each other and we are converting plays. I think they are growing up. We know the Big 12 is the best league and you have to come ready to play every night. I think we came ready to play tonight.

“I know our group is hungry to win. We continue to talk about coming in tomorrow and getting better. And this group has done a good job of coming in the next day and getting better. I think tonight we traded blows with a very good Oklahoma team.”

  Sophomore Guard Natalie Ventress

On TCU's offense and shot selection:
“In our minds we couldn't miss. When everything was going in we were very excited and gave us that momentum.”

On the loss:
“We are getting better everyday, every game, and everyday in practice. So we will take this and learn from it and be better for the next game.

“On any given day everyone is going to have a great game. They had a great game, we had a great game they just came out with the win.

“Defensively I don't think it was our best game, but offensively we were finding each other and I thought it was our best performance.”
