NORMAN, Okla. -- Aaryn Ellenberg scored a game-high 26 points -- including OU's final 13 -- and
Joanna McFarland recorded a double-double with 14 points and 16 rebounds as No. 16 Oklahoma fought its way past Texas Tech, 65-55, at the Lloyd Noble Center Saturday night.
Trailing 29-28 at halftime, the Sooners (14-2, 4-0 Big 12) outscored the Red Raiders (12-4, 2-2), 37-26, in the second half to record their sixth straight win.
"We're really showing a lot of leadership, a lot of passion, a lot of intelligence, a lot of toughness, and making plays," OU head coach
Sherri Coale said. "I'm just really, really proud. That's a good basketball team. They're going to win a bunch of games in this league."
Nicole Griffin added 13 points, four rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals as the Sooners' starting frontcourt played the final 8 1/2 minutes with four fouls each.
"We went through a stretch their in the middle of the second half ... when McFarland and
Nicole Griffin were both in foul trouble," Coale acknowledged. "We had some different and odd combinations in, so stuff that we wanted to go to to take advantage of their defense, we couldn't really run. When they came back in we were immediately able to go to some of that stuff."
The teams traded the lead through the first five minutes of the second half before McFarland ignited the Sooners with seven points of a 14-3 run.
Chynna Brown's 3-point with 4:48 remaining narrowed the deficit to 52-48, but Ellenberg would score eight unanswered points to seal OU's sixth-straight victory.
Oklahoma, which has lost four players to season- or career-ending injuries, briefly takes the lead of the Big 12 Conference as 3-0 Baylor plays at Kansas Sunday.
Count Coale as one person not suprised by the undefeated streak.
"I love these guys. I'm proud of them, I'm happy about it, we've got a lot of room for growth, a lot of improvements to make but I just love their spirit. I love the way they fight together and their belief in one another and themselves and the way they represent our program."
OU returns to action for its third Big 12 road game on Tuesday, facing Iowa State at Hilton Coliseum at
7 p.m. CT. The game will broadcast on FS Oklahoma and FS Southwest Plus.
