Year in Review Part I: National Champions

NORMAN, Okla. -- The 2011-12 OU Athletics season was another one marked by success across the board. This week, SoonerSports.com takes a look back with a series of features highlighting the most outstanding team and individual performances from the past year.

Oklahoma crowned four individual national champions in 2011-12. While one came as a bit of a surprise -- Chirapat "Ja" Jao-Javanil entered the NCAA Women's Golf Championship ranked No. 59 in the country -- the others did not. Two were repeat national champions -- men's gymnastics' Jake Dalton and track & field's Brittany Borman. Two earned multiple crowns -- Dalton and track & field's Tia Brooks. And all but one -- Borman -- will be back in Sooner uniforms next year.

2012 NCAA Javelin Champion

Won her second straight NCAA javelin title

Winning mark of 184 feet, seven inches was more than four feet better than the next competitor

Owns two of OU's six women's outdoor track & field national titles

Posted the top mark in the NCAA during the regular season with an OU program record throw of 194-11

Also won her second straight Big 12 javelin title with a throw of 181-2

Career résumé includes two national titles, four All-America honors (3 javelin, 1 discus) and four Big 12 titles (2 javelin, 2 discus)

2012 NCAA Outdoor Shot Put Champion

Won indoor title with a program-record throw of 62 feet, four inches

Became only the second female in NCAA history to throw 62 feet

Throw of 60 feet, six inches at the outdoor meet was more than two feet better than the next competitor

Earned second straight outdoor All-America honor after finishing as the runner-up in 2011

Also swept the Big 12 Conference titles in the event

Career résumé includes two national titles, four All-America honors and three Big 12 titles

Claimed the NCAA all-around title with a career-high score of 91.000

Also finished second on floor and third on rings and high bar

First gymnast in OU's storied history to earn All-America honors on six events (all-around, floor, high bar, p-bars, rings, vault) in one season

In three seasons at Oklahoma, Dalton owns 13 All-America honors and four individual national titles

Won conference all-around, high bar, parallel bars and rings titles

Current member of the U.S. National Team

Dalton First to Earn Six All-America Honors

Medalist in three of 11 tournaments played on the year

Finished second individually at the Big 12 Championship

Led Oklahoma to its first team conference title since 2000

OU's sixth-place NCAA finish matched the program's best ever
