ATHENS, Ga. -- Costin Paval and Dane Webb advanced in the opening round of the NCAA Doubles Championships Thursday after the duo downed Penn State's Russell Bader and Jason Lee in three sets at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the University of Georgia campus.
The Oklahoma tandem, ranked 10th-nationally, dropped the first set to the nation's 27th-ranked duo, 6-3, but rallied to take the final two sets, 7-5, 6-1. Webb and Paval will challenge Pepperdine's Alex Llompart and Finn Tearney, ranked No. 15, tomorrow.
While Paval won his doubles match, he was not as fortunate in his second round singles match where he took on Texas Tech's No. 40-ranked Gonzalo Escobar. The Sooner, ranked No. 12, dropped a straight set contest to the Red Raider as Paval ended the season with a 16-4 record in singles action.
