NORMAN, Okla. -- The 31st-ranked University of Oklahoma men's golf team travels to Tempe, Ariz., this week to compete in the 40th-annual ASU Thunderbird Invitational. The 54-hole tournament will be held at the par-71, 7,026-yard Karsten Golf Course Friday and Saturday (April 6-7).
The 17-team field features eight teams, including the Sooners, ranked in the Golfweek/Sagarin top 50, including five in the top 20. OU will be competing against No. 6 California, No. 9 Washington, No. 11 UNLV, No. 13 San Diego State, No. 19 New Mexico, No. 26 Oklahoma State, No. 49 Arizona, Arizona State, Ball State, BYU, Cal State Northridge, Colorado State, Denver, Pepperdine, UC-Irvine, UTSA and Wyoming.

"We are going to try and find that same feeling we had in Arizona last year, just at a different venue," OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. "It is time for us to step up and play some good golf."
OU's lineup will feature senior Riley Pumphrey, junior Abraham Ancer, junior Will Kropp, sophomore Eduardo Castiello and freshman Michael Gellerman.
Pumphrey, the nation's No. 75 individual, has participated in six events for the Sooners this season and has finished as the team's top performer in all six. Pumphrey also holds the team's best scoring average this season at 71.47. Ancer has participated in a team-high nine events and is second on OU's all-time scoring average list behind Anthony Kim. He and Pumphrey lead the team with three top-10 finishes each and six top-25 finishes apiece.
"After two nice weeks of work, our guys are ready." Hybl said. "It's just a matter of executing under pressure."
The ASU Thunderbird Invitational will begin Friday at 9:45 a.m. CT. Thirty-six holes will be played on Friday and the final 18 holes on Saturday. Live scoring will be available at Golfstat.com..
