Game Notes

In games played in Stillwater, OU leads 29-26 since 1962. The Sooners have lost six straight games in Stillwater after dropping a 7-6 contest in 2010, the first non-conference game in the rivalry at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium since 1996. OU's last win at OSU was in 1992 (W, 6-4 on April 27) ... The 2012 meeting marks the sixth straight season that at least one of the teams is ranked in the top 25 ... STILLWATER, Okla. -- No. 23 Oklahoma's eight-game winning streak ended with a 6-1 loss at Oklahoma State on Tuesday.

The Sooners took a 1-0 lead in the first inning but gave up six unanswered runs, including three runs in the decisive sixth inning to put OSU up 4-1, during the non-conference game at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.

“We won eight straight until today and we faced a guy that pitched a really good game,” said OU Head Coach Sunny Golloway.

OSU's Kyle Ottoson lasted 8 1/3 innings and received extra insurance in the eighth as the Cowboy offense plated two more runs for a 6-1 lead. Ottoson (3-5) allowed one run off five hits and a walk and posted four strikeouts.

Oklahoma (26-15) and Oklahoma State (23-17) will meet in a three-game Big 12 series next weekend.

“It's an in-state game, it's a rival game,” said Golloway on the importance of Tuesday's outcome. “It's not a conference game and that's where we're fortunate. We still get the opportunity in the Big 12 series against them and that will be in important to us. Our big 12 record is going to be important to us.”

On Tuesday, OU manufactured a run in the first inning as Erik Ross led off the game with a single up the middle and moved to second on a sacrifice by Jack Mayfield. Ross then came around to score on Max White's team-leading 35th RBI of the season, another single up the middle off OSU starter Kyle Ottoson.

White finished with his fourth straight multi-hit game after a 2-for-4 performance. OU was outhit 10-5 on the day.

The Cowboys tied it up at one apiece in the bottom of the third inning as Trey Whaley doubled, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt, and came around to score on sacrifice fly.

In the sixth inning, OSU scored a trio of runs and took a 4-1 lead on a pair of two-out hits and a wild pitch by Damien Magnifico.

Magnifico (1-1) took the loss with a season-high five strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings. He gave up four runs off seven hits and four walks.

Next up for the Sooners is a home game on Wednesday, April 25, against Dallas Baptist at 6:30 p.m. at L. Dale Mitchell Park. The Patriots beat the Sooners 7-6 on March 13 in Dallas.

“To have to sit and wait and go to Lawrence would be really tough,” said Golloway on the opportunity to play again Wednesday. “Tomorrow we are going to play a team that has an RPI of 30 something and we need to go out and find victory. That can at least balance out the damage that we did today.”

Following the midweek game, OU travels to Lawrence, Kan., to battle the Jayhawks in a three-game series over the weekend. Friday's series opener is set for 6 p.m. at Hoglund Park.
