Men's Golf Heads to Aggie Invitational

NORMAN, Okla. -- The 28th-ranked University of Oklahoma men's golf team concludes the 2011-12 regular season this weekend as it travels to Bryan, Texas, for the Aggie Invitational. The sixth-annual event will be held Saturday and Sunday at the par-72, 7,146-yard Traditions Club course.
The tournament will include two rounds Saturday and one round Sunday. Unlike most events, the Aggie Invitational with feature a play-six-and-count-five format.
OU's lineup will feature senior Riley Pumphrey, junior Abraham Ancer, freshman Michael Gellerman, junior Will Kropp, sophomore Michael Schoolcraft and freshman Charlie Saxon. Freshman Nicholas Smits will compete as an individual.
The 10-team field will be one of the most competitive the Sooners have faced this season. It features eight teams ranked in the top 50 of the Golfstat Cup ratings. Six of the 10 teams this weekend are from the Big 12 Conference. The field is comprised of No. 1 Texas, No. 13 Oregon, No. 15 Texas A&M, No. 16 New Mexico, No. 28 Oklahoma, No. 29 Baylor, No. 30 Oklahoma State, No. 43 Texas Tech, Oregon State and Utah.
Oklahoma has bested Big 12 rivals Baylor (twice) and Oklahoma State earlier this season. The Sooners also tied top-ranked Texas at the Puerto Rico Classic. Texas A&M and Texas Tech have won events competing against OU. Big 12 programs will meet again next weekend in Trinity, Texas, for the 2012 Big 12 Championship.
“The boys are ready to go, and it's time for us to step up this week,” OU head coach Ryan Hybl said.
