NORMAN, Okla.. – The 46th-ranked University of Oklahoma women's tennis team ends its regular season this weekend with home matches against No. 6 Texas on Saturday, April 21 at noon and No. 24 Texas A&M on Sunday at noon at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
Saturday is Campus Kids' Day at OU tennis. There will be a serving contest, in between the doubles and singles point, followed by free pizza.
“We have a couple of must win opportunities this weekend,” OU head coach David Mullins said. “We need to find a way to play our best tennis of the year and try to manage an upset.”
There will also be a post-match clinic where kids will have a chance to play and interact with the team and coaches. Children must be in eighth grade or younger to participate.
Oklahoma (10-10, 5-3 Big 12) is coming off a 4-3 win over Oklahoma State in Stillwater to sweep the Bedlam series against the Cowgirls.
Freshman Nicole Long clinched the win over OSU with a win at the No. 6 spot. Long edged out Isabela Miro in the first set, 7-5, before winning the second set, 6-0.
The Sooners are led by Marie-Pier Huet and Whitney Ritchie. The pair is ranked 39th nationally in doubles and is 15-5 overall at the No. 1 position.
Ritchie holds a team-best overall record in singles with a 15-5 record between the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions.
Texas (13-6, 6-1 Big 12) is looking to clinch the Big 12 regular season championship with a win over Oklahoma and Oklahoma State this weekend.
The Longhorns enter the weekend following a 4-3 loss to Texas A&M last week.
Texas A&M (14-4, 5-2 Big 12) currently sits in third place in the conference behind Texas Tech and Texas respectively.
Admission to all OU home tennis events is free.
