NORMAN, Okla. -- No. 8 Oklahoma softball won its sixth straight game to move to 15-3 as it run ruled Austin Peay, 8-0, in five innings Tuesday night in Norman. OU Head Coach Patty Gasso continually stresses to her team to be ready for anyone to step in and lead the team and on Tuesday night it was Kirsten Allen in her first start of the season in the circle.

Allen became the second Sooner pitcher to throw a compete-game one hitter this season as she held the Lady Govs to just one fifth-inning hit. Austin Peay fell to 6-8 as Allen struck out seven of the 17 batters she faced. She got help at the plate as Oklahoma collected eight hits while scoring in three of four innings.

“The team came ready to play tonight. What fired me up was Kirsten Allen's energy and she nailed it today,” said Gasso. “She was a senior who was absolutely controlling the game today. She's the epitome of a team player and she's been that way since she stepped onto campus. She sparked a team that was a little flat and this team wanted to score runs for here. They had her back at the plate.”

Javen Henson got the Oklahoma scoring underway in the bottom of the second when she smacked her first career home run over the Marita Hynes left field fence. The sophomore's homer brought home Allee Allen who had walked in the previous at bat.

OU added a third run in the second after Jessica Shults walked and was sent to third on a Keilani Ricketts single to center field. With runners on the corners, Brittany Williams delivered an RBI single through Austin Peay's right side for a 3-0 Oklahoma lead.

The Sooners added their fourth run in the bottom of the third when freshman Lauren Chamberlain sent her team leading fifth home run of the season over the left center for a solo shot.

Oklahoma closed the door on the Lady Govs in the bottom of the fourth with four runs off three hits. The Sooners were aided by three illegal pitches by Austin Peay relief pitcher Morgan Brewer. After Shults and Ricketts led off with a single and a double, respectively, they were replaced on their respective bases by Callie Parsons and Kelley Reeves. An illegal pitch by Brewer sent Parsons home and Reeves to third before Williams doubled to left field to score Reeves.

After Erica Sampson replaced Williams on the base path, Georgia Casey moved her over to third with a sacrifice fly to deep right field. One batter later saw Sampson trot home on a second Brewer illegal pitch as Chamberlain walked to first. After stealing second, Chamberlain moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Brianna Turang before she was sent home by a third Brewer illegal pitch for Oklahoma's eighth and final run.

Oklahoma returns to action on Friday as it hosts the Oklahoma Spring Festival presented by Marriott. The Sooners open the event with a game Friday against Indiana at 6 p.m. before playing Wichita State at 1:30 p.m. and Indiana at 4 p.m. on Saturday. OU closes out the weekend Sunday at 1 p.m. against Wichita State.
