NORMAN, Okla. -- The No. 24 Oklahoma baseball team recorded its fifth victory in the last six games on Tuesday with a 5-2 win over visiting Oral Roberts.
“We needed to get momentum back on our side,” said Max White when asked about coming back on Saturday at Texas Tech after falling to 0-4 in Big 12 play.
It marked the first regular season meeting between the in-state rivals since 2004. OU improved to 16-10 overall this season and 33-29 all-time against Oral Roberts (10-13).
“It's a good win at home over a quality opponent,” said OU Head Coach Sunny Golloway.
White gave the Sooners a 2-0 lead in the first inning of a two-run single with the bases loaded. OU pushed its lead to 4-0 after Hunter Lockwood's Big 12-leading seventh homer of the year.
The Sooners took a 5-0 lead after four innings on Jack Mayfield's sacrifice fly and Cale Coshow held the Golden Eagles scoreless until the sixth inning. Coshow tossed five scoreless innings before walking the leadoff hitter in the sixth, who later came around to score with reliever Kindle Ladd on the mound.
Coshow improved to 2-0 in his second straight start with five innings. He improved to 1-0 in his first appearance as a Sooner last week in the start against Air Force. ORU starter Alec (1-1) Smith only lasted three innings with four runs allowed, three earned.
The Sooner hurlers limited the Golden Eagles to three hits, a season best for Oklahoma. The Sooners eight hits were paced by multi-hit performances by White, Brian Brightwell and Caleb Bushyhead.
OU welcomes Kansas State for a Big 12 series starting on Friday at 6:30 p.m. Saturday is set for 2 p.m. and the finale on Sunday is slated for a 1 p.m. first pitch.
