NORMAN, Okla. -- The 28th-ranked University of Oklahoma men's golf team moved up one spot Sunday to finish in fifth place at the 12-team Linger Longer Invitational in Eatonton, Ga.

The Sooners turned in a final-round 296 (+7) to finish 41 strokes behind winner Alabama at the par-72, 7,073-yard Great Waters Course at Reynolds Plantation. The second-ranked Crimson Tide finished 14 strokes ahead of second-place Georgia.

Oklahoma's Riley Pumphrey notched his ninth top-10 finish of his career, finishing the day with an even-par 72. The senior stood at 1 under for the round before recording a bogey on the 18th hole. Pumphrey's three-round 213 (-3) put him in a tie for eighth place, five strokes behind co-medalists Nick Reach of Georgia and Corey Whitsett of Alabama.

"Riley played really well all week, and that is a good sign," OU head coach Ryan Hybl said.

OU freshman Michael Gellerman carded a final-round 74 (+2) and finished the event in a tie for 26th place with a three-round 220 (+4). The freshman started the day well before registering four bogeys on the back nine.

Junior Abraham Ancer carded a final-round 76 (+4) for a 223 (+7) total and a 35th-place tie. Senior Will Kropp was right behind Ancer in a share of 37th place after registering a three-round 224 (+8). Kropp's final-round 73 was his best score of the weekend. He played the final 11 holes at 2 under par.

Sophomore Eduardo Castiello and senior Ben Klaus, who competed as an individual, finished in a tie for 54th place at 14 over par.

"After watching this week, we have a lot to work on before we head to Arizona State," Hybl said. "We need all of our guys to start stepping up and executing at the right moments instead of what I have seen so far this spring."

The Sooners will be back in action April 6-7 when they travel to Tempe, Ariz., for the ASU Thunderbird Invitational.
