NORMAN, Okla. -- The 28th-ranked University of Oklahoma men's golf team will travel to Eatonton, Ga., this week to compete in the Linger Longer Invitational, hosted by Kennesaw State and Mercer Universities. The 54-hole tournament will be held at the par-72, 7,073-yard Great Waters Course at Reynolds Plantation on Saturday and Sunday (March 24-25).

"After a long break, we are excited to get back into the action this week on a really fun course,” said OU head coach Ryan Hybl.

The 12-team field features six teams, including the Sooners, ranked in the Golfweek/Sagarin top 50, as well as four teams that made 2011 NCAA Championship appearances. OU will be competing against No. 2 Alabama, No. 26 Georgia, No. 30 Chattanooga, No. 31 Liberty, No. 41 Kennesaw State, Charleston Southern, Charlotte, Jacksonville, Mercer, Notre Dame and South Alabama.

Alabama claimed the 2011 event championship with a team score of 846 (-18).

OU's lineup will feature senior Riley Pumphrey, junior Abraham Ancer, junior Will Kropp, sophomore Eduardo Castiello and freshman Michael Gellerman.

In the team's previous event -- the Puerto Rico Classic -- OU finished in a tie for sixth place in a 15-team field that featured 10 teams ranked in the top 50. The Sooners also finished ahead of their Bedlam Rival, Oklahoma State, for the first time in six years.

The Linger Longer Invitational is the first of three more tournaments for OU before beginning postseason action. Postseason play begins April 27-29 with the Big 12 Championship in Trinity, Texas, and continues May 17-19 with an NCAA Regional hosted by the Sooners at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club.

"This is a big week for us leading into the last half of the spring before championship season starts," Hybl said, “so it is time for us to get great momentum.”

The Linger Longer Invitational will begin Saturday at 7 a.m. CT. Thirty-six holes will be played on Saturday and 18 on Sunday.

Live scoring will be available at Golfstat.com, and results from each day will be posted on SoonerSports.com.
