Sooner Rowing Headed to Austin

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma rowing team heads to Austin for the Longhorn Invitational this weekend, March 16-18. OU will face Texas, University of San Diego, Southern Methodist University and University of Central Florida in its second weekend of action on the 2012 spring schedule.

"We are looking forward to the competition in Austin this weekend," OU Head Coach Leeanne Crain said. "USD, UCF and Texas are all formidable opponents, so it will be interesting to see how we match up early in the season. We've made some changes to lineups from last week, so hopefully we've picked up a little more speed in the top boats."

The Sooners will field six boats this weekend. The novice eight will kick off competition Friday at 5:00 p.m. against Texas. They will be followed by the varsity four and varsity eight events facing off against University of San Diego. On Saturday, racing begins for OU at 8:50 a.m. and the OU varsity boats will face SMU and UCF. Last weekend the Sooners swept the Mustangs in the final.

Oklahoma will conclude the weekend on Sunday with all six of its boats facing Texas. The weekend events will be broadcasted on the Longhorn Network. The network has yet to determine the broadcast date and time.

Last weekend, Oklahoma opened up the 2012 spring season by taking first at the OU Invitational, beating out SMU. The Sooners racked up four varsity eight wins, claimed three second varsity eight wins and four varsity four wins in the scored events. OU ended the weekend with 24 total wins.
