CORVALLIS, Ore. -- Oregon State scored 11 unanswered runs and claimed an 11-7 victory over the No. 16 University of Oklahoma baseball team on Sunday in the finale of the Nike Showcase.
The Sooners jumped out to an early 7-0 advantage in the first two frames, including a two-run single from Max White in the second inning.
OSU starter Dylan Davis did not even make it out of the first inning and left the bases loaded before being relieved by four Beaver relievers.
In the fourth inning, the Beavers chipped away at the lead with two runs, including the first of three homers hit on the afternoon.In the fifth, Oregon State chased OU starter Damien Magnifico after 4 2/3 innings in his first start of 2012.
Magnifico
was relieved by Kindle Ladd (0-1) who took the loss with three earned runs allowed off five hits in two innings pitched.
The Beavers made their move in the seventh inning with
three doubles and two Sooner errors. OSU tacked on three more runs with back-to-back home runs off Ty Taylor in the eighth and the Sooners finished with a season-high five errors.
Riley Wilkerson (1-0) tossed a scoreless sixth and seventh for the win while Tony Bryant recorded his third save of the season with a scoreless eighth and ninth innings.
The Sooners return to action on the road Tuesday at Dallas Baptist at 6:30 p.m. The midweek game is followed up by the start of Big 12 play as Texas travels to Norman for a three-game set over the weekend.
