NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma women's basketball signee Nicole Kornet will be a participant in the 2012 WBCA High School All-American Game, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association announced Wednesday.
The 21st Annual All-America Game features the nation's top 20 high school senior girls' basketball players.
Kornet, rated by scouting services as highly as the No. 5 guard and No. 19 overall in the Class of 2012, has averaged 21 points and seven rebounds for Liberty Christian (Argyle, Texas) this season.
The game, which is held as part of the WBCA National Convention, will be played Saturday, March 31, 2012, at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colo., site of the 2012 NCAA® Women's Final Four®. Tipoff is 4:30 p.m. MT.
For the third straight year, the game will be played on the official NCAA Women's Final Four court. The 20 players will be divided into two 10-player teams for the game, which will be played according to NCAA rules.
Kornet will be the first future Sooner to participate in the game since Whitney Hand, also a Liberty Christian alumna, played in the 2008 edition in Tampa, Fla. Other former Sooners who were also WBCA All-Americans include Amanda Thompson (2006), Ashley and Courtney Paris (2005) and Chelsi Welch (2002).
The 20-player All-America team and additional 20 honorable mentions were nominated by WBCA-member high school and AAU coaches, and then chosen by a selection committee composed of girls' high school basketball coaches who represent nine geographical districts across the country. College coaches were not eligible to nominate a player for consideration.
