NORMAN, Okla. -- Some things to look out for this weekend as No. 15 Oklahoma opens a four-game homestand.
Looking ahead: The No. 15 Sooners open their home season at 3 p.m. Friday at L. Dale Mitchell Park against Hartford. OU is ranked No. 15. Hartford was 6-43-1 last season. The three-game series continues at 2 p.m. Saturday and finishes with a 1 p.m. game Sunday.
Looking back: OU got off to a 1-2 start in its first series of the year at Pepperdine. OU won the season opener, 4-3, but gave up 17 runs in the next two games. OU was shutout 10-0 in the second game at Pepperdine and suffered a 7-6 loss in a game cut short to eight innings because of a travel curfew.
Next up at home: After the three-game series at home, OU will take on Texas-Arlington at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
At the plate: Matt Oberste collected five hits in nine at-bats against Pepperdine with three doubles. Hunter Lockwood had three RBIs. However, the Sooners hit .240 as a team in the three games at Pepperdine. The team also struck out 17 times in the three games.
On the mound: Reliever Jordan John registered two of the decisions over the weekend, earning the win on Friday and suffering the loss on Sunday. Also in relief, Damien Magnifico made his debut in the opener and registered his first career save as a Sooner. All three starting pitchers struggled as Dillon Overton, Jonathan Gray and Steven Okert did not make it past the fifth inning. All three remain in the rotation this weekend against Hartford.
What to watch for: Look for the Sooners to get some confidence going, both on offense and defense. OU was 28-4 at home last season inside the friendly confines of L. Dale Mitchell Park, which went through another renovation in the offseason. Click the video above to see some of those renovations and view the latest photos here:
