PEPPERDINE, Calif. -- The No. 14 Sooners fell behind 4-0 early and never recovered, falling 10-0 at Pepperdine on Saturday afternoon.

The Waves evened the series at one game apiece behind 10 runs off 14 hits and a strong pitching performance by Scott Frazier (1-0). The sophomore ace proved to be as good as advertised with seven strong innings and six strikeouts. Frazier limited the Sooner offense to five hits and one walk.

“We got out pitched today,” said OU Head Coach Sunny Golloway. “He (Frazier) pitched outstanding. He is rated as one of the top sophomores in the country and he proved it today.”

For the second straight day, Pepperdine jumped out on top first with a RBI single by Aaron Brown in the third inning. It was in that same frame that the Waves chased OU starter Jonathan Gray (0-1) out of the game. Despite battling out of a couple of jams early with four strikeouts, Gray could not get out of the the third and finished with six walks in just 2 2/3 innings pitched.

In the bottom of the fourth, the home team padded the lead with three runs after a couple of close plays at first base that prevented OU from getting out of the frame.

The Waves tacked on three more runs in the sixth inning and put the game out of reach with a run in the seventh and two more in the eighth.

Pepperdine's Aaron Brown finished 3-for-5 with three RBI while Joe Sever and Tony Cooper drove in a pair of runs apiece. Evan Mistich was the lone Sooner to collect multiple hits with two base knocks while Cody Reine, Matt Oberste and Garrett Carey each had a hit.

The Sooners and Waves conclude the three-game series Sunday at 11 a.m. PT at Eddy D. Field Stadium. The game can be heard on the Sooner Sports Network 1400 AM.
