NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma women's cross country team was one of 205 honored with All-Academic status by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Monday. The Sooners were one of five Big 12 Conference teams honored. Oklahoma turned in a 3.33 grade point average.

OU's women finished 10th with 297 points at the NCAA Midwest Regional, two spots higher than their regional ranking heading into the event.

Redshirt junior Jessica Engel was named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country team last week. The Sturgis, S.D., native is majoring in health and exercise science. Engel qualified as an individual for the 2011 NCAA Championships, an event where she finished 86th with a time of 20 minutes, 54 seconds. She earned all-region honors after taking fifth at the NCAA Midwest Regional (21:04.33). She was also OU's lead runner at the Big 12 Championship, finishing fifth in 20:27.9. Engel also earned Academic All-Big 12 first team honors this past year.

The 205 institutions represent 30 conferences. To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and have started at least five runners at their respective NCAA regional championship.
