NORMAN, Okla. -- The 35th-ranked University of Oklahoma men's golf squad will travel to San Antonio, Texas, this week to open its spring season at the UTSA/Oak Hills Invitational. The 54-hole tournament, hosted by the University of Texas-San Antonio, will be played Feb. 13-14 at the par-71, 6,765-yard Oak Hills Country Club.
"I believe our boys are hungry for the weekend and ready to get going for the spring," head coach Ryan Hybl said. "We played well down here last year, and I expect our guys to have a chance to compete this week at an even higher level."
The 15-team field features four teams ranked in the Golfweek/Sagarin top 50. The Sooners will get a preview of four Big 12 foes: No. 28 Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas State and Texas Tech. Other teams in the field include No. 22 Wichita State, No. 39 Tulsa, No. 40 North Texas, Houston, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana Tech, Rice, Southeastern Louisiana and Texas State.
This week's Sooner lineup will include junior Abraham Ancer, senior Riley Pumphrey, junior Will Kropp, and sophomores Eduardo Castiello and Michael Schoolcraft. Freshman Nicholas Smits, who enrolled at OU this semester, will make his debut for the Sooners, playing as an individual.
Texas Tech has won the Oak Hills Invitational three years running, shooting a three-round 837 (-15) last year.
This year's event will consist of 36 holes on Monday (8 a.m. CT shotgun start) and 18 on Tuesday (tee times starting at 7:30 a.m.). Each day's results will be posted to SoonerSports.com. Live scoring will be available at Golfstat.com.
