Return to Recap

  Head Coach Sherri Coale

On the game:
"I don't know if I've ever been prouder of a team in 17 years of doing this. Unbelievable determination and they revealed their mettle and their character. I talk about their character all the time. It's one thing to talk about it, it's another thing for however many people got to witness it tonight.

"I have no words. I don't even know how they could think, much less change defenses and run sets and change matchups. They revealed their strength. They are a bunch of great kids. As tough as it is for our basketball team, it's tougher because it's devastating for Whitney."

On the injury to Whitney Hand:
"Nobody loves to play basketball anymore than Whitney Hand. I've never met a kid who loves to compete and play this game more than Whitney. The fact that she is denied that and has to endure again, is really hard for all of us to accept and understand. But I will promise you this, that group of warriors that showed up and finished the game, are going to fight their tails off every time they play. I guarantee you they will. They'll fight with Whitney's spirit and do everything they can. We're going to find a way to win basketball games."

  Head Coach Mike Petersen

On the physicality of the game:
"I thought we were the aggressor. Usually when you're the aggressor, good things happen. I was very happy with our effort with the exception of about the first two-and-a-half minutes where we didn't take a shot. I was very happy with our approach to the game offensively. We didn't play scared. We were very aggressive. We attacked a lot. Defensively I thought our traps really disrupted them. Our zone bothered them. At the end of the day, if you had offered me a stat sheet that says Oklahoma is going to make five threes, and we are going to make nine, and we are going to make seven more field goals than they do in the game, I had would have had a really hard time turning that down. I wouldn't have anticipated they would shoot 40 free throws, but again, some of that was we were very aggressive."

On Oklahoma's offense:
"I think that's the best catch-and-shoot basketball team in the country, maybe the best one I've seen in the last 10 years. They've got the best skill set offensively in terms of getting open and catching it and making shots."

On Oklahoma senior guard Whitney Hand:
"I just feel for that kid. If young adult adoption was legal, her last name would be Petersen, trust me...I just told her to hang in there, her trainer was on the way [when he went over to her after her injury]. I just feel for kids, especially kids that compete like that. It is the most helpless thing in the world to be lying on the floor. Again, she's not my player, but I have so much respect for her."
