OU Concludes Fall Season With 11th-Place Finish in Dallas

NORMAN, Okla. -- The 44th-ranked University of Oklahoma men's golf team is tied for 10th place after Monday's first and second rounds of the 15-team Royal Oaks Intercollegiate in Dallas, Texas. The Sooners followed a first-round 293 (+9) with a second-round 280 (-4) and stand at 5 over par at the 7,068-yard, par-71 Royal Oak Country Club with one round remaining.
Oklahoma is tied with No. 15 Missouri in the 10th spot and trails first-place Texas Tech (-11) by 16 strokes. No. 16 Oklahoma State, Iowa, No. 34 Texas A&M and No. 9 SMU, round out the top five. Thirteenth-ranked Baylor, co-host of the event along with SMU, finished the day in 13th place.
SMU's Maxine Blandin (-9) sits in first place among individuals.
OU senior Abraham Ancer (-1) is in a seven-way tie for 13th place. Ancer recorded a first-round score of 73 and came out strong in the second round. Starting on hole 10, he carded three birdies on the back nine and finished with a 3-under 68.
Freshman Beau Titsworth (+3) is tied for 38th place and also shot a second-round 68, tying his career low. Titsworth carded five birdies and two bogeys in the round.
“We played pretty solid this afternoon with Abe and Beau shooting a nice pair of 68s,” head coach Ryan Hybl said.
Junior Eduardo Castiello finished at even par in his first team action of the season, shooting identical first- and second-round scores of 71.
“I am really proud of Eddie for stepping in today and giving us some consistency in the 5 slot,” Hybl said.
Sophomore Michael Gellerman is tied for 57th place at 5 over par and junior Michael Schoolcraft (+11) is tied for 77th.
Sophomore Charlie Saxon (+3), competing as an individual, finished the day in a tie for 38th place after concluding the first round tied for 65th place.
Ancer, Gellerman, Castiello and Schoolcraft all competed in the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate last season.
The Sooners will look to finish strong in their final round of fall competition and attempt to record their fourth top-10 finish of the season.
"This morning was miserably bad, but we rebounded nicely and need a big day tomorrow,” Hybl said.
