OU Men Take Third In Wisconsin

NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma men's cross country team took third place at the fourth-annual Wisconsin adidas Invitational Friday, Oct. 12, in Madison, Wis.

The 2012 Wisconsin adidas Invitational marked the biggest regular-season meet of the year for the Sooners, and has established itself as one of the NCAA's elite collegiate competitions.

The finish is a program-best for the Sooners, who last competed in the 2010 race as a No. 15 squad and finished fifth overall.

The Sooners competed among the majority of the top-30 teams in the nation from a 46-team field, which included four top-ten teams in No. 1 Wisconsin, No. 5 Iona, No. 6 Portland, No. 8 Stanford.

The Crimson and Cream defeated the reigning cross country national champion and host, Wisconsin, as well as Red River rival and Big 12 contender, No. 22 Texas.

Senior Patrick Casey was OU's top finisher, taking seventh place out of 316 runners with a time of 23:34. He led all Big 12 competitors.

Fellow seniors Kevin Williams (23:49) and Riley Masters (23:58) finished in the top 40, taking 25th and 39th place, respectively. Sophomore Ryan Poland (47th place) and senior Bill Kogel (48th) each turned in a 24:01 effort. Andrew Weaver (24:04; 58th place) and Kyle King (24:20; 114th) rounded out the Sooner squad.

Next up for the Oklahoma men's team is Saturday's Chili Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark. Select OU athletes will participate.

The Sooners will then compete at the Big 12 Championship on Oct. 27 in Austin, Texas.
