NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma men's golf team will travel to Franklin, Tenn., this week to participate in the 11th annual Mason Rudolph Championship. The tournament, hosted by Vanderbilt University, will be played Sept. 23-25 at the par-71, 7,100-yard Vanderbilt Legends Club.

Oklahoma will look to build upon the success from their season opener, a third-place finish at last week's 15-team Mark Simpson Colorado Invite. At last year's Mason Rudolph Championship, the Sooners led after two rounds before eventually finishing in fourth place.

OU's lineup will feature Abraham Ancer, Riley Pumphrey, Michael Gellerman, Charlie Saxon and Michael Schoolcraft.

Ancer, a junior, will play in the Sooners' No. 1 position. He turned in a solid performance in his first tournament of the season, a 7-under-par 209 that resulted in a tie for fifth place.

After playing a significant role in the Sooners' journey to the NCAA championship last season, Pumphrey will make his 2011 debut Friday with hopes of continuing his success. The senior competed in a team-high 13 events last season and recorded a 73.19 stroke average. Pumphrey tied for 12th place at last year's Mason Rudolph with a 1-under-par performance.

Freshman Gellerman finished behind only Ancer at the Mark Simpson Colorado invite, tying for 11th place in his collegiate debut.

Schoolcraft played well competing as an individual in the opener. The sophomore finished at 1 under par and in a tie for 15th place. Last year, Schoolcraft finished tied for 17th place in Tennessee, shooting 1 over par.

Saxon will look to improve on a 12-over-par performance in the season opener. The freshman shot par in the first round before falling off in the final two.

The 14-team field will also consist of Akron, Belmont, College of Charleston, Davidson, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Memphis, MTSU, Ole Miss, Samford, South Carolina, Vanderbilt and Western Carolina.

Teams will play 18 holes Friday through Sunday, with fixed tee times on holes 1 and 10 starting at 8 a.m. CT Friday and Saturday and 7:30 a.m. CT Sunday

“I like where we are heading this week, and I think the guys' attitudes are where we need them to be in order to compete,” said third-year OU head coach Ryan Hybl. “We know the golf course from last year and I expect us to do well.”
