NEW HAVEN, Conn. – OU women's tennis head coach David Mullins and assistant coach Brook Connelly advanced to the semifinals 2011 US Open National Playoffs Mixed Doubles Thursday after defeating Michaela Kissell and Jacob Eddins, 6-3, 6-4, in the quarterfinals.
Mullins and Connelly won in straight-sets for the sixth consecutive match.
“We got off to a good start in both sets today,” Mullins said. “Brook carried me yet again. I am hoping I can step up tomorrow and help her out.”
Mullins and Connelly will play the winner of the Christina Fusano/David Martin and Marie-Eve Pelletier/Aleksander Vlaski matchup on Friday in the semifinals.
Fusano and Martin are the playoff's No. 1 seed and were the winners of the USTA Southern playoff, while Pelletier and Vlaski won the Pacific Northwest playoff.
With Thursday's victory, the OU coaches are just two wins away from the 2011 US Open. The winner of the US Open National Playoffs will earn a wild card spot in the US Open Mixed Doubles Main Draw.
