NORMAN, Okla. -- University of Oklahoma head women's basketball coach Sherri Coale announced her team's 14-game non-conference schedule Wednesday, one featuring visits from reigning Big East champion Connecticut and Big Ten champ Ohio State.

Oklahoma will also host the first and second round of the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship at the Lloyd Noble Center Sunday, March 18, and Tuesday, March 20.

"Once again, our pre-conference schedule will be one of the most challenging in the country," Coale said. "We will have a young team that will be forced to grow up quickly, however, the Big 12 conference is unforgiving. It's imperative that we prepare ourselves for the grind of league play and ultimately for the climb of March in the NCAA tournament.

Oklahoma's strength of schedule has consistently been one of the toughest in the sport, ranking in the top 10 nationally each of the past four seasons and five of the past six.

OU begins Nov. 2 with an exhibition against Central Oklahoma and follows with a Nov. 10 exhibition against Grand Canyon University, an NCAA Division II institution located in Phoenix, Ariz.

The official season opener commences Nov. 13 with Oklahoma hosting Sacramento State. The Sooners then travel to two legendary basketball venues, visiting New Mexico at "The Pit" in Albuquerque (Nov. 19) and Vanderbilt University's Memorial Gymnasium for a Thanksgiving weekend tournament (Nov. 25 and 26).

Ohio State visits Dec. 4 for Oklahoma's matchup in the Big 12/Big Ten Women's Basketball Challenge. Following the visit from the Buckeyes, the Sooners head west for a Dec. 8 game at Fresno State and return to Norman to play Milwaukee Dec. 11.

Winter break is preceded with three games in three days in Las Vegas against Ohio, Syracuse and Xavier (Dec. 18-20) and OU returns from the holiday round-robin to host TCU on Dec. 28.

For the fourth straight season, Oklahoma will meet Geno Auriemma's Connecticut Huskies when they visit the Lloyd Noble Center for the Pack the Place Pink Game on Feb. 13.

Tip-off times and broadcast information will be announced at a later date. For ticket information, contact the OU Athletics Ticket Office by phone at (800) 456-4668 or by email at outickets@ou.edu.

The 18-game Big 12 Conference schedule will be announced in August. The Sooners will play each of its nine league opponents both home and away. The 2012 Big 12 Women's Basketball Championship will be held at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo, March 7-10.
