NORMAN, Okla. - Junior catcher Tyler Ogle and senior pitcher Michael Rocha were named to the American Baseball Coaches' Association All-Midwest Region second team on Thursday. It marks the first career selections for Ogle and Rocha as nine Sooners have collected all-region honors under head coach Sunny Golloway since 2006.
The Sooner captains were also named All-Americans after the 2011 campaign ended.
Ogle was the third Sooner to collect All-America honors in 2011 after Baseball America named him a third team selection. Ogle joined Rocha (Louisville Slugger second team) and Dillon Overton (Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American) as the three Sooners honored this year.
Ogle, who started 161 career games in a Sooner uniform, including over 100 behind the plate where he was a semifinalist for the 2011 Johnny Bench Award, an honor presented to the nation's top catcher. Ogle led Oklahoma with nine homers in 2011 and hit .343 with 45 RBI while starting 56 of the Sooners' 60 games behind the plate. The 2011 first team All-Big selection by the league's coaches threw out 22 out of 62 potential base stealers and posted a .980 fielding percentage.
Ogle was the first Sooner off the board in the 2011 MLB Draft after he was taken in the ninth round (284th overall) by the Los Angeles Dodgers
In 2011, Rocha leads the Big 12 with five complete games and ranks third with 10 wins and fourth with a 1.79 ERA. He was voted a All-Big 12 first team by the coaches, The Oklahoman and The Waco Tribune. He lasted at least seven innings in 11 of his 15 starts and struck out five or more batters in 11 outings.
