NORMAN, Okla. – Ionut Beleleu and Costin Paval were selected as at-large participants to compete in the singles portion of the 2011 NCAA Championships, which will be conducted May 25-30 at the Taube Tennis Center in Stanford, Calif., following the conclusion of the team championship.
Beleleu, ranked No. 24 in the ITA singles rankings, compiled a 13-8 record on the year while holding down the No. 1 singles spot for the Sooners. The 2010 ITA Central Region Champion also led the Sooners at No. 1 doubles along with Tsvetan Mihov.
Paval, the nation's 41st-ranked singles player, boasts a 16-6 record after competing at the No. 2 position for Oklahoma. Last year Paval and former Sooner Andrei Daescu earned All-America status after the duo advanced to the Elite Eight and finished the year ranked No. 13.
Stanford University will serve as host. All matches shall be the best of three sets. Regular scoring and a 12-point tiebreaker at six games all will be used for all matches.
The Sooners will host the first and second rounds of the 2011 NCAA Championships on May 13-14 and will take on No. 36 Tulsa in the first round.
