Three Rowers Named to C-USA All-Academic Team

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's rowing team named three student-athletes to the Conference USA Rowing All-Academic Team, the league announced today. Fifteen student-athletes from Oklahoma, Alabama, Kansas, Kansas State, SMU, Tennessee, Texas and UCF were selected.
Nicole Furmanek, Brooke Sheppard and Kelsey Witten were honored by C-USA for maintaining above a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and being a key contributor to the team. All three Sooners hold a GPA above a 3.85 and race in the varsity eight events.
Furmanek is a junior elementary education major, maintaining a 3.96 GPA. She was named a Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete in 2010, as well as a three-time Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll member. She has appeared on the President's Honor Roll twice and the Dean's Honor Roll once at OU.
Sheppard is a senior human resource management major, maintaining a 3.86 GPA. She was named a Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete in 2010, as well as a 2011 OU Big Woman on Campus for her community service efforts and academic excellence. She has appeared on the President's Honor Roll twice and the Dean's Honor Roll three times at OU.
Witten is working towards a master's in adult and higher education, maintaining a 4.00 GPA. This is Witten's second appearance on the C-USA All-Academic Team. She was named a Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete and a College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-American in 2010. She has appeared on the President's Honor Roll seven times and the Dean's Honor Roll twice at OU.
The Sooners compete in Oak Ridge, Tenn. May 14 and 15 for the C-USA Championships and the Oak Ridge Regionals.
