Sooners Drop to Fifth Place at Big 12 Championship

NORMAN, Okla. -- The No. 24 Oklahoma men's golf team shot an 8-over-par 288 Tuesday to finish the third round of the Big 12 Championship in fifth place at the 6,593-yard, par-70 Prairie Dunes Golf Club in Hutchinson, Kan. The Sooners, who entered the day in third place, own a three-round score of 867 (+27) and are 22 strokes behind leader Oklahoma State (845) with one round remaining.
Behind a Big 12 Championship record round of 270 (-10), top-ranked OSU holds a 12-shot lead over second-place and sixth-ranked Texas A&M. The Aggies shot a 5-under 275 on the day. No. 11 Texas holds the third spot at 862 (+22) while No. 14 Texas Tech is one spot in front of OU at 866 (+26).
OU senior Ryan Sirman fell one spot on the leaderboard into a tie for fourth place after shooting a 3-over 73. Sirman is at 3 over par for the tournament, six strokes back of leader Morgan Hoffman of Oklahoma State.
Sophomore Abraham Ancer and junior Riley Pumphrey had respectable outings for the Sooners, as well. Ancer posted a 72 while Pumphrey shot a 71. The pair is in a five-way tie for 11th place at 6 over par.
Freshmen Eduardo Castiello and Michael Schoolcraft shot their best rounds of the tournament, carding a 72 and 75, respectively. Castiello stands alone in 49th place, while Schoolcraft is in a tie for 52nd.
