Sooners Win Bedlam in Stillwater, 6-1

STILLWATER, Okla. – The 20th-ranked Oklahoma women's tennis team ended its regular season with a 6-1 win over Oklahoma State Saturday in Stillwater.

Oklahoma (17-5, 9-2 Big 12) closed the regular season with OU's best record under current head coach David Mullins. All five of OU's losses this season were to top 25 opponents.

The Sooners tied their program-best Big 12 regular season record with the win at 9-2, previously set in 2004.

OU won its 18th doubles point of the season after picking up wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.

Mia Lancaster and Whitney Ritchie defeated OSU's Sasha Belova and Malika Rose at the No. 2 spot, 8-3. OU's freshman duo finished the regular season at 13-1 overall in doubles and 11-0 in Big 12 play.

Marie-Pier Huet and Tara Eckel clinched OU's doubles point win at the No. 3 spot, defeating C.C. Sardinha and Leyla Simmons, 8-6.

The Sooners picked up the first three points in singles play to clinch the win over the Cowgirls, before adding two more victories to reach the 6-1 final score.

Huet defeated Rose at the No. 3 spot, 6-2, 6-2, Ritchie topped Sardinha at the four-spot, 6-3, 7-5, while Alice Radu defeated OSU's Sasha Belova at the No. 2 spot, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, to win OU's fourth match point.

With the match already decided, OU added wins at the No. 6 and No. 1 singles spots from two seniors.

Maria Kalashnikova defeated OSU's Sarah Meghoufel, 6-2, 6-4, at the No. 6 position while Ana-Maria Constantinescu topped Nataliya Shatkovskaya at the No. 1 spot, 7-5, 6-2.

The 2011 Big 12 Championships will begin next weekend on April 28 in Waco, Texas. OU is currently third in the Big 12 standings. Official seeds, pairings and times will be announced after this weekend's final conference matches.
