NORMAN, Okla. - Megan May returned to action for 19th-ranked Texas A&M and delivered a third-inning two-run double as the Aggies (34-12, 6-4 Big 12) shut out 15th-ranked Oklahoma 3-0 Friday evening at the OU Softball Complex. The Sooners (33-14, 6-6 Big 12) struggled against A&M starter Melissa Dumezich, stranding five base runners on the evening - three of them in scoring position.

Dumezich (20-7) threw her 10th shutout of the year, holding Oklahoma to just three hits and one walk. She struck out nine. Keilani Ricketts (20-10) allowed all three A&M runs with just one of them earned. Ricketts walked one and struck out five in her 5.2 innings pitched. Michelle Gascoigne made her 17th appearance of the year, throwing the final 1.1 innings for the Sooners. Gascoigne allowed just one walk and struck out two of the five batters she faced.

Texas A&M got a one-out base runner in the third when Natalie Villarreal reached on an error and advanced to second on a single by Rhi Kliesing. The pair then scored when May hit a shot to deep center field to put the Aggies up 2-0. A&M added an additional run in the sixth when Amber Garza reached on a leadoff double off the center field wall and scored on Kelsey Spittler's single to right field.

Ricketts reached on a two-out error in the second and moved to second on a wild pitch but was left stranded to end the inning. The Sooners got another chance to put runs on the board in the fourth but left two runners on.

Brianna Turang was hit by a pitch and Jessica Shults reached on a fielder's choice before advancing to third on singles from Haley Nix and Ricketts but pinch runner Cierra Hughes was thrown out at home to end the inning.

Play was halted at the beginning of the bottom half of the fifth inning for a weather delay and resumed 37 minutes later.

Dumezich retired the first six batters she faced following the delay and OU had two runners on base in the bottom of the seventh but was unable to get the tying or go-ahead runs across.

Nix led off with a single and Williams drew a walk but the side was retired to end the game.

Villarreal ended the game 2-for-4 for Texas A&M. Nix went 2-for-3 for OU with Ricketts adding the only other hit for the Sooners.

The two teams meet Saturday at 2 p.m. CT. The game airs statewide on Cox Channel 3 (HD 703) in Oklahoma City and Tulsa. Live stats and a webcast are available at SoonerSports.com.
