NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma men's golf team carded a final-round 382 (+22) Sunday to finish tied for eighth place at the 11-team Aggie Invitational in Bryan, Texas.
Oklahoma, which finished tied with Tulsa, finished 53 strokes behind champion and tournament host Texas A&M. The Aggies were the only team that shot below par on the day (-4), and finished the three-round event at the 7,146-yard, par-72 Traditions Golf Club with a +5 total.
The Sooners were led by sophomore Abraham Ancer, who shot a 72 Sunday. Ancer finished in ninth place at +2, eight strokes behind tournament-champion Peter Uihlein of Oklahoma State.
“Abe had a good week and that's nice to see,” said OU Head Coach Ryan Hybl. “Other than that, we just weren't good enough. The course beat us up all weekend; we didn't make enough birdies to get things going. But on the positive side, I think this was good preparation going into next week at the Big 12 Championship.”
Senior Ryan Sirman also had a strong tournament for Oklahoma. Sirman shot a 4-over 76 on Sunday and finished tied for 12th among 72 competitors at +5. Junior Riley Pumphrey also posted a 76 in the final round and tied for 31st with his 10-over 226 on the weekend.
Freshman Michael Schoolcraft tied for 44th after shooting a final round 77. Fellow freshman Eduardo Castiello claimed the 65th spot and sophomore Will Kropp finished in 70th.
The Sooners begin post-season play with the Big 12 Championship April 25-27 in Hutchinson, Kan. OU finished last year's Big 12 Championship in seventh place.
