COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The No. 7 Oklahoma baseball team fell 2-1 at Missouri in the 11th inning on Friday night in game two of the doubleheader. The Sooners won the first game of the series earlier in the afternoon, 3-1, as temperatures hovered in the mid 30s throughout the day.

“It was just a really tough, long day,” said OU Head Coach Sunny Golloway. “I thought we pitched really well, but we cant score runs right now. One run in 11 innings is not going to beat many teams and it wasn't good enough today.”

OU dropped to 18-6 overall and 2-3 in Big 12 play, while the Tigers improved to 12-12 and 1-1. The doubleheader was scheduled Friday afternoon with the threat of inclement weather expected on Saturday.

For the second straight game, OU jumped on top first with Ricky Eisenberg's RBI single to center field in the fourth inning.

The Tigers were able to chase OU starter Bobby Shore in the fifth inning and tied the game at one on his watch before he was relieved by Jack Mayfield who inherited a bases-loaded situation. Mayfield kept the Tigers' offense at bay and worked 4 1/3 innings and a season-high 76 pitches on the evening.

Shore's counterpart, Matt Stites, also did not register a decision with 6 2/3 innings in the start for Missouri.

The Tigers' Phil McCormick tossed 4 1/3 innings out of the bullpen to improve to 3-1. The sidearm-left hander allowed just one hit and struck out four Sooner hitters.

Dillon Overton (3-2) suffered the loss despite pitching strong out of the bullpen for the fifth time this season. In the bottom of the 11th, the freshman left hander gave up a two-out double to the gap in right center field to Jonah Schmidt. Looking to stretch the double into a triple, Schmidt slid past a mishandled relay by third baseman Garrett Buechele. The next hitter, Eric Garcia, singled through the right side of the infield for the game-winning RBI.

The Sooner pitchers saw the Tigers load the bases in the fifth, sixth and ninth innings, but came away unscathed. Missouri had 10 hits on the evening and stranded 14 base runners. Oklahoma, led by two hits by Buechele, Eisenberg and Caleb Bushyhead, stranded 11 runners off eight hits.

The third game is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday and it marks the fourth rubber match between OU and Missouri since Big 12 play began in 1997.

Temperatures are expected to be in the mid-30s again with snowfall anywhere from 2-6 inches forecasted. The game can be heard live on KREF 1400 AM with the pregame show starting at 1:30 p.m.
