FULLERTON, Calif. - The ninth-ranked University of Oklahoma softball team opened play at the Judi Garman Classic Wednesday afternoon with a 2-1 loss to Notre Dame. OU (22-6) jumped out to an early lead behind Keilani Ricketts' fifth home run of the year, but the Fighting Irish (15-2) rallied to score single runs in the third and fourth to secure the win.
Ricketts got OU on the board in the second with a full count solo home run to left center. Singles from Chana'e Jones and Dani Dobbs put two runners aboard for the Sooners but Oklahoma was unable to extend the lead.
The Fighting Irish tied the game in the top of the third when Brianna Jorgensborg scored on an OU miscue. The run broke Ricketts' scoreless inning streak at 45.1 innings. Notre Dame took the lead in the top of the fourth on an RBI double by Jorgensborg to score Amy Buntin.
OU threatened in the fifth and seventh but stranded runners on base in the final three innings. The Sooners left nine runners on during the game.
Brianna Turang ended the afternoon 2-for-4, while Jones and Dobbs each went 2-for-3. Ricketts' 1-for-3 plate appearance resulted in the home run.
