NORMAN, Okla. -- University of Oklahoma golfer Ben Klaus shot a first-round 73 (+2) Wednesday at the Patriot All-America Invitational in Litchfield Park, Ariz.  The senior is in a tie for 24th place out of 84 competitors at the 54-hole event being played at the Wigwam Golf Resort.
 
Klaus, playing in his second event of the season, is six strokes behind leader Brooks Koepka of Florida State. Today's round was played on the 7,006-yard Gold Course.
 
Klaus started the day with six straight pars before recording a bogey on hole No. 7 and a double bogey on No. 8. He closed the front side with a birdie on the ninth hole. His back nine featured three birdies, including holes 17 and 18, to finish the round at 2 over par.
 
The tournament will resume Thursday with second-round play and will conclude with Friday's third round. Live scoring is available on Golfnet.com.
 
The Patriot All-America Invitational features 21 golfers ranked among the top-100 amateurs in the world and benefits the Folds of Honor Foundation. Folds of Honor is a charitable organization with a mission to empower deserving military families with educational support and opportunities by providing post-secondary educational scholarships for children and spouses of military service men and women killed or disabled while serving our country.
 
To show support for the organization, each golfer is carrying a commemorative PING golf bag bearing the name of a fallen soldier from the community in which they live or attend school. Klaus is representing U.S. Army Sgt. Daniel M. Eshbaugh of Norman.
