NORMAN, Okla. — Thursday's United States-Australia playoff game at the 2011 International Softball Federation (ISF) Junior Women's World Championships will have an Oklahoma feel to it as three members of the OU Softball program represent both sides. Lauren Chamberlain and Destinee Martinez will suit up for the U.S. as they take on Georgia Casey and Australia in their quest for a gold medal at the event.
Chamberlain and Martinez helped the American squad to a 7-0 record in Group A while Casey and Australia finished second in the event's Group B with a group play record of 6-1.
The American team captured its fifth straight shutout win with a 15-0 three-inning win over the Czech Republic in a game that saw both Sooners cross the plate, Chamberlain doing so twice.
The U.S. followed the win by closing out group play with a 12-3 five-inning victory against Puerto Rico. Chamberlain posted her second home run of the event with a two-run shot in the bottom of the second inning that included eight American runs.
The Aussie squad continued its winning ways with a 9-4 win over Chinese Taipei with Casey providing two doubles while holding down second base on the field. Casey hit her first double in the top of the third to bring in the first Australian run and followed with her second in as many at bats, bringing in a second run in the process.
The Australian team closed out group play with a win over Argentina as Casey was in the pitching circle for five innings in the 7-0 six-inning win.
