NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma's Aaryn Ellenberg and Whitney Hand were two of 51 women's college basketball players on the Naismith Trophy Early-Season Watch List released Wednesday.
The Naismith Watch List was compiled by the Atlanta Tip-Off Club's Board of Selectors, which based its criteria on player performances from the previous year and expectations for the 2012 season.
Ellenberg has averaged 21.5 points through Oklahoma's four games this season and has been the team's leading scorer in each. Last week, the 5-7 guard set an OU record by making a 3-pointer in her 24th consecutive game.
Hand has totaled 8.8 points and 7.0 rebounds per game as she rests on the verge of 700 career points.
Both players were preseason All-Big 12 honorable mentions.
In February the board will compile a midseason list of 30 players that will be narrowed to four finalists in March.
The 2012 Naismith Trophy will be awarded at the Women's NCAA Final Four in Denver.
The No. 18 Sooners face another Naismith candidate when Samantha Prahalis and No. 17/18 Ohio State visit the Lloyd Noble Center at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 4.
