Oklahoma improved to 4-0 on the year and advanced to the 76 Classic championship game with an 85-73 win over Santa Clara. Sunday's title game against Saint Louis (5-0) will begin at 8 p.m. CT and be televised by ESPN2.
OU's 85 points matched a season high. Last year, the Sooners scored at least 80 points four times (high of 84).
The Sooners ended the first half on an 18-0 run to lead 42-19. They scored the first two points of the second half to go ahead by 25, their largest margin of the game.
Santa Clara outscored OU 54-43 in the second half. After going 3-for-12 from 3-point range in the first half, the Broncos went 8-for-21 in the second half.
OU shot .467 from the field against a Santa Clara team that was holding opponents to a .348 figure entering the game.
Oklahoma dominated the boards, outrebounding the Broncos 49-33. The Sooners recorded 16 second-chance points and outscored SCU 29-18 in the paint.
Steven Pledger's 26 points marked his second-highest career total (38 in overtime win last year at Iowa State). The junior guard was 10-for-15 from the field and 4-for-8 from 3-point range. He is shooting a team-high .595 from the field on the year and .455 from long distance.
Junior forward Andrew Fitzgerald recorded his second career double-double with 12 points and a career-high-tying 13 rebounds. He added a pair of blocked shots.
Junior guard Sam Grooms finished with 12 points, five boards and six assists while committing just one turnover. He was 8-for-12 from the free throw line. In two 76 Classic games, Grooms has racked up 16 assists and just two turnovers.
Junior forward Romero Osby pulled down 10 rebounds for the third time in four games. He scored nine points, just missing his third double-double of the year.
OU head coach Lon Kruger improved to 5-0 all-time in the 76 Classic. He led UNLV to a 3-0 record and the championship last year.
